The University of New Hampshire is issuing this campus alert in compliance with the Clery Act. The Clery Act is federal legislation that requires all colleges and universities with federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about campus crimes.

CAMPUS ALERT 05/07/08

 (In compliance with the Clery Act)

On Wednesday May 7, 2008 between 7:30am and 7:45am a 2004 Honda Civic color blue was stolen from Stoke Hall Parking Lot.  At 11:00 am, the vehicle was stopped by the Rochester Police Department for speeding and the driver ran off. The Rochester Police recovered the vehicle and UNH Police are at the scene processing the car for evidence. The University of New Hampshire Police Department would like to remind everyone to lock your vehicles, do not leave anything of value inside, and please report any suspicious activity.

CAMPUS ALERT 04/05/08

On 04/05/08 at 11:30am, the University of New Hampshire Police Department received a report of a 2 door, black, 2007 Jeep Compass, bearing ME tag # 51962, was reported stolen from the C parking lot.  The vehicle had black tinted windows and 18” black custom rims. The vehicle was last seen on 04/04/08 around 7:45 PM when it was parked in the lot.

(Note: On 04/07/08, this vehicle was recovered on University property in College Woods.)

CAMPUS ALERT 03/28/08

The University of New Hampshire Police Department has received reports of three motor vehicles stolen from three different locations on the UNH Campus.  The stolen vehicles and circumstances are listed below:

● On 02/06/08, at approximately 7:49 PM, a 2 door, green, 1998 Honda Civic, bearing NH tag# 2292940, was reported stolen from West Edge parking lot.  The vehicle was last seen on 02/02/08 around 10:00 PM.  Due to a recent snowfall, the vehicle appeared to have been removed by a wrecker, however it was not towed by UNH’s parking services, nor was is repossessed.  The vehicle has not been recovered, however the plates were found along side a road in Newmarket, NH

●  On 03/27/08 at approximately 11:49 AM, a 4 door, white, 1988 Toyota Camry, bearing NH tag# 818038, was reported stolen from “G” parking lot, located in front of the UNH Greenhouses.  The vehicle was last seen around 10:15 AM, and was found missing at approximately 11:15 AM.  The vehicle was unlocked, and had a spare key hidden inside.  The vehicle has rust on the driver’s door, and EZ Pass on the front windshield, and a “flat” of yellow Basil plants in the back seat.  The vehicle has a 5-speed automatic transmission.

●  On 03/28/2008 at approximately 9:15 AM, a 2 door, black, 1994 Honda Civic, bearing NH tag# 1997306, was reported stolen from the Woodside’s parking lot.  The vehicle was last seen parked a few rows up from the dumpster near the bus stop on 03/23/08 at approximately 7:30 PM.  The vehicle was locked, and due to the snowfall, it is unknown if forced entry was used.  The vehicle contained ski equipment in the truck, and highly accessorized with “aftermarket” parts, both on the outside and inside.  There were many distinguishing marks on the vehicle including: yellow Honda emblems, yellow “New Speed” sticker on the rear trunk lid, stickers on the rear side windows, and an “aftermarket” front bumper with side air-intakes, and fog lights.

The University of New Hampshire Police Department would like to remind everyone to lock your vehicles, do not leave anything of value inside, and please report any suspicious activity. If anyone has any information regarding these incidents, they are urged to call the University of New Hamsphire Police Department at 603.862.1427. 

SAFETY INFORMATION BULLETIN

On March 3, 2008, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the University of New Hampshire Police Department received a report of an unknown white male in Devine Hall fourth floor women's bathroom. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at approximately 12:00 p.m.

The subject is described as an unknown white male 5’9” to 6’ tall wearing a black Northface style jacket with blue jeans and black Timberland style boots.  No other physical characteristics were identified.

The unknown subject attempted to look under the shower stall while it was being used by a female occupant and left immediately when the stall door was opened.

No other reported incidents have been reported during that same period of time or since.

The University of New Hampshire Police Department reminds everyone in the University Community to please call 911 immediately upon observing anyone or anything suspicious. Anyone having questions regarding this incident should contact the University of New Hampshire Police Department at 603-862-1427.

CAMPUS ALERT

On Monday, January 21, a contract employee alleged an incident of sexual harassment and sexual assault occurred on the UNH campus in mid-December. The UNH Police Department is conducting a preliminary investigation.

The alleged perpetrator, who is NOT a UNH employee, was banned from campus.

Both the alleged perpetrator and victim were employed by outside contractors.

As a reminder and as we begin a new academic semester, here are safety tips to use at all times, but especially if you are on campus late at night when there are few others around.

  1. Tell someone where you are and how to find you. Keep someone's contact information with you.

  2. Keep your cell phone powered and with you at all times.

  3. If you don't have a cell phone, make note of all available land-line phones in your building, and the location of the nearest blue light outside phone.

  4. When possible, walk in groups and stay on well-lit pathways and sidewalks.

  5. If you feel uneasy, pay attention to your gut instincts even if a threat isn't immediately visible.

  6. Even if you are in doubt, tell someone. Ask for help in determining your next steps. Call the University Police Department (911) V/TTY, SHARPP (862.SAFE or 7233) V/TTY any time, 24/7. UPD can also be reached during normal vusiness hours at 862.1427 V/TTY.

  7. UNH Police provides escort services on campus. Call 862.1427.

  8. You can report an incident you think is a result of hate or bias online at www.Reportit!@unh.edu.

  9. If the situation is related to an employee, call Human Resources at 862.0501 V/TTY.
