The following General Education rules apply for all students admitted for September 1984 through Spring 2010. They also apply to transfers admitted for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. The specific courses which may be used to fill the group requirements listed below Click here.
To be graduated from the University, students must fulfill four types of requirements: University (General Education), writing, degree, and major requirements.
BA candidates must also satisfy a foreign language requirement. No credit is awarded for elementary year college coursework if students have had two or more years of that language in high school.
In addition to the particular requirements for specific degrees, all candidates for a bachelor's degree must obtain a passing grade in minimum of 128 credits in courses numbered 400-799, must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.00 for all courses taken at the University in which a grade is given, and must successfully meet, as soon as possible in their University careers, the following General Education Requirements:
*Students admitted prior to September 1989 may take any two courses from a combination of Groups 7 and 8.
These courses cannot be taken on a Pass/Fail basis. No single course may be counted in more than one General Education category. Academic departments may or may not permit General Education courses to count toward requirements for a major, check with your adviser.
