Finding Federal Funding Opportunities
There are two paths to finding federal funding to support your project:
- Federal Agency Websites, and
- Grants.gov
Most federal agencies list all their funding opportunities on their websites. Frequently visiting the agency website of interest to you is a good way to stay abreast of funding opportunities. This is the traditional why of finding funding for your research.There is now a better and more efficient way.
Grants.gov is the federal government’s One-Stop-Shopping location for all federal funding opportunities across all federal agencies. At Grants.gov, a single query will search across all angencies and uncover funding opportunities related to your search query terms.
At Grants.gov, you can also sign up to receive email alerts to notify you when NEW funding opportunities become available.

Using Grants.gov
DO NOT Register an Account with Grants.gov.
Grants.gov will ask you to register an account with them before you will be allowed to submit a proposal. Please do not register.
UNH is registered as an organization with Grants.gov. When you submit a grant, you should do so as the UNH Organization. For help with this, please contact Lynnette Hentges.

How to Find Funding at Grants.gov
At Grants.gov, you can find funding opportunities in five ways:
- Keyword search
- Browsing grant categories
- Browsing grant awarding agencies
- Advanced keyword research
- Email subscription
You can perform all of these searches at the “Find Grant Opportunities” page at Grants.gov.

Applying for a Grant through Grants.gov
You can apply for grants through Grants.gov in four (4) easy steps.
- Download the grant application package
- Complete the grant application offline at your convenience
- Submit the grant by logging in to UNH’s Grants.gov organizational membership and submitting the application materials (DO NOT register your own account with Grants.gov. Contact Lynnette Hentges for assisstance.)
- Track the status of your submitted application
