Sept. 30, 2003

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire will welcome
a team of representatives with the New England Association of Schools
and Colleges (NEASC) as part of its decennial accreditation Oct.
20-22, 2003.
UNH has been developing an alternative self-study as part of its
decennial accreditation by the Commission on Institutions of Higher
Education (CIHE) of the NEASC. The CIHE last reviewed and reaccredited
the university in 1993.
The self-study has two parts:
•
Compliance with NEASC’s 11 Standards (an abbreviated report),
•
Planning in three areas of focus (the major effort in the self-study):
undergraduate experience, engagement through research and scholarship,
and institutional effectiveness.
Information on the accreditation process, including the self-study
reports, is available at www.unh.edu/neasc/index.htm.
A small NEASC team visited the campus April 30–May 2, 2003,
to address UNH’s compliance with the 11 Standards. The October
visit with the full NEASC team will address the area reports. There
will be an open forum Monday, Oct. 20, at 2:15 p.m., UNH-Manchester,
Room 329, and Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 3p.m., on the Durham campus,
Memorial Union Building, Room 330.
Interested parties are encouraged to examine the reports. They
may also submit comments to: Public Comment on University of New
Hampshire, Commission on
Institutions of Higher Education, New England Association of Schools
and Colleges, 209 Burlington Rd., Bedford, Mass. 01730-1433.
Comments should include name, address, phone number, and signature,
and should address substantive issues related to accreditation.
Comments must be received by Oct. 22, 2003, and will not be treated
as confidential. For more information, please see the NEASC-CIHE
Web site at www.neasc.org/cihe/cihe.htm.
