Bountiful Harvest: Growing a Green Generation

By Jody Record, Media Relations

Kids at the Child Study and Development Center show off their garden as a place to play as well as learn about the environment during the annual Harvest Fest, held this week in celebration of their green thumb efforts.

Tending their own vegetables is part of the “Growing a Green Generation”, a project supported through a grant from the Anna and Raymond Tuttle Environmental Horticulture Fund. “Growing Green” is a collaborative venture between CSDC teachers, Cooperative Extension and the UNH Plant Biology Department.

“We see ourselves as the beginning of sustainability,” says John Nimmo, CSDC executive director. “It’s also an opportunity for kids to get their hands right in the dirt, even the youngest.”

The 120 kids who attend the center range in age from 6 months to 6 years old.
