Studying Abroad Residence Halls

Students who lived in residence halls prior to Exchangearrow

If you lived in the residence halls immediately prior to leaving for exchange and wish to live in the residence halls upon return, you have a few options:

If you will be living with an on-campus friend who wishes to bring you in to an empty space in their room as their roommate, your friend can arrange that during the In-Hall room sign-up process. The friend should tell their Hall Director that you are a returning study abroad student who has received an offer of housing. The Hall Director will then hold the space for you and Housing will make the assignment official after verifying your eligibility.

If you wish to return to the same residence hall you lived in immediately prior to your exchange, but will not be a pull-in, you may participate in the In-Hall process of that hall by completing a Priority Points form. Using the email address listed on your Intent to Return to Housing after Exchange Program form, we will email you instructions for completing the Priority Points form for your specific hall along with a return deadline. (Priority Point forms will be sent via email in early November or early March and must be returned by the stated deadline.) Once that is received by us, we will forward it to the Hall Director, along with the preference information indicated on your Returning Exchange Housing Agreement Form . The Hall Director will use your Priority Points to identify your place in the selection order. When your selection time arrives, the Hall Director will do his/her best to assign you to an available space that meets your preferences as closely as possible. Please note that guarantees of a specific room or type of room cannot be made. Staff is only able to make their best effort to accommodate your requests and their ability to do so will be based on a number of factors including your Priority Points, preferences, and availability of spaces.

If you wish to move to a different building upon return, you will be assigned in early December or early April, depending on your semester of return. When making assignments, we will refer to your preferences listed on the Returning Exchange Housing Agreement Form . We will try to accommodate your preferences as much as possible however please know that our ability to do so depends on availability.

If you are interested in living in either Woodside or The Gables upon return, you also have a few options:

The best way to receive a housing assignment in one of the undergraduate apartment complexes is for you to be pulled-in by friends who are already living there. If you will be a pull-in, your friend living in the apartments can arrange that during the apartment sign-up process. The friend wishing to pull you in should contact their Property Manager for more information.

If you wish to live in the apartments but will not be pulled-in, we will be able to accommodate your request but will do so based on cancellations received in late spring and early summer. Your assignment and roommate information will be sent to you in early January (for spring semester returns) and mid-July (for fall semester returns).
