Honors Program Thesis - Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I begin the process for writing my thesis?
First you should consult the faculty liaison for your honors-in-major program. Remember that we have stored theses of prior students in Dimond Library, Special Collections & Archives for you to consult. Also, we encourage you to contact the Hamel Center's Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) for senior thesis research support. Many have found it helpful in working on their thesis, because UROP enables students to get involved in research. During the academic year when you are registering for thesis credit, you may apply to UROP for an Honors Theses Grant which provides up to $150 to help pay for expenses associated with your thesis.

How do I find a thesis advisor?
Your thesis advisor should be a faculty member with whom you have successfully worked in the past or, a faculty member who has knowledge in your area of research interest. If you need help finding an advisor, you should discuss your topic with the faculty liaison of your major and he or she should be able to help you. It is highly recommended that you complete this step during the semester before you wish to write the thesis, as the research and writing will take most of a semester and you don't want to get a late start!
-
How long does my thesis have to be?
Your major or advisor may set a length requirement, but there is no requirement set up by the program.
-
When is my thesis due?
The due date will be set by your thesis advisor. Plan enough time to allow for revisions and final grading! University deadlines for submission of grades apply.
