I joined the Honors Program halfway through my freshmen year and have taken half my semester coursework as honors since then. For me, the Honors Program offers students the ability to learn course material in a manner never before experienced. The professors who teach the honors sections attempt to challenge you and engage you in discussion or writing. When you walk into a course like that you initially feel overwhelmed, but quickly gain your footing and feel the challenge of being in an honors course. Many students joining the Honors Program may have still felt in their comfort zones in the AP or other advanced courses they took in high school. I can honestly say that here at UNH the students who take the wonderful opportunity to take honors courses in disciplines outside of their primary study will get pushed out of their comfort zones and gain more than the knowledge of the course; they gain the understanding of what it is like to be a scholar and actively engaged in their learning.
