This series of images evolved from an unplanned visit by Rob Hare (Alumni and Development) to my office, which became an impromptu opportunity to capture his image with a QuickCam.
The original PICT image is shown here uncropped and uncorrected except it is resaved as a JPEG file for use with HTML.
In the next image the raw grayscale is converted to a duotone, using the Photoshop preset for black and Pantone warm gray. This gives the picture a subtle warmth. A low level of sharpening was also applied.
Building on the duotone, the bowtie was selected and tinted an arbitrary shade of red.
Then the background was selected and colored pale yellow. In addition the overall image was slightly reduced.
Finally, the index icon in the left hand frame was created by converting the duotone image to grayscale and manipulating the threshold setting, then reducing the size.
