PPNNE Internship Opportunities 2008-2009 Legislative Internship Planned Parenthood of Northern New England - NH is looking for a motivated intern to assist the Public Affairs Department with legislative affairs for both fall and spring semesters. The fall will consist of preparation work for the legislative session and Get Out The Vote work during the election. The spring will consist of work at the State Capitol during the legislative session to ensure that reproductive health and rights issues are addressed and protected in the legislature. Responsibilities include: supporting the work of PPNNE's Public Affairs Department; developing and organizing support materials; conducting on-line research; helping organize citizen lobby visits; helping coordinate meetings with legislators; monitoring the activities of the State House and Senate; database management and other administrative duties. Hours are flexible; 10 - 15 hours per week are required. Preferred hours are Tuesday through Thursday mornings, though some evening and weekend hours will occur as well. This internship takes place at our Concord, NH office. Grassroots Organizing Internship Planned Parenthood of Northern New England - NH seeks enthusiastic and motivated interns for fall and spring semesters in the Durham/Portsmouth area. The Grassroots Organizing Interns are responsible for implementing grassroots organizing initiatives to increase membership in the Planned Parenthood Action Network (PPAN), build public awareness of and community support for PPNNE's work, conduct community outreach in targeted areas and at UNH, and engage community members, students and young people in reproductive justice issues[LINK]. Responsibilities include: recruiting new PPAN members through community outreach, including active tabling at festivals, health fairs, college events, etc; recruiting and mobilizing new activists and volunteers; assisting in lobbying activities, such as meeting with local legislators, postcard and petition drives; attending community and student meetings; supporting clinic advocacy initiatives through the development of outreach materials, bulletin board maintenance, and placement of education materials in clinic waiting rooms; creating and maintaining various website organizing tactics, including social networking sites and blogging; data entry and other administrative duties. The goal of the internship is to increase Planned Parenthood's outreach in specific communities and targeted college campuses to promote reproductive health and justice. Hours are very flexible; 10 - 15 hours per week are required. The required hours do not have to be completed in office and some evening and weekend hours will be required as well. ************* Internships are unpaid, but can be done for school credit. Interns are given the opportunity to work as part of a state-wide campaign and gain significant skills and leadership experience. These internships are great for someone interested in women's issues and the legislative process, and plan to have a career in non-profit agencies, politics, public policy, public affairs, or government relations. Qualified candidates would be enthusiastic, pro-choice, self-motivated, comfortable on a computer, well spoken, and have a willingness to learn.
